Unbelievable, I thought if by any chance I would ever meet a sand storm, it would be in Beijing, but it happened here in Sydney this morning.
Yesterday it was unusually hot and stuffy, I thought there must be quite a heavy rain storm coming at night, never thought it would pour sand.
About 5:00am this morning, 23-Sep-2009, I was waked up by the noisy wind roaring outside, I could hear those clothes-hangers collapsing on people’s balconies, metal objects rolling on the balcony just above us. I opened my eyes, all I saw through the curtains was this orange-red coloured foggy sky. The whole room is lightened in this colour.
The first thought, sand storm? in Sydney? chance is like 1 time every 100 years. Here is a photo I took from inside my balcony door, it is like WOW! I wonder how many people will go out to work in this weather.

I wish I had a SLR, I want to take some proper photos, I mean I probably wouldn’t have another chance to see this extraordinary scene in the next 20 years. It is kind of horrible but exciting.
The storm settled a bit this morning, I didn’t want to go to uni today, but I had to, I had a few appointments with a few professors. When I went out, I saw red sands everywhere on the streets, on car tops, it felt like a small desert in central Australia had flown on top of Sydney and dropped. It’s like sand rained from sky.
Though everyone was talking about the sand storm today, the funniest one I heard was this “I thought there is an alien invation.”
