As the lecturer said, this unit is about putting every design bits we’ve learnt all together to actually manufacture some engineering products physical.
It seems that in the following 10 weeks or so, we will be doing a lot of CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Machining, Solidworks 3-D modeling, as well as physical casting, welding, and forming.
Worth mentioning, the manufacture machine which we will be using for our project is worth a quarter of a million dollars, so we’d better be careful writing our CNC codes so that we don’t make stupid mistakes. Because the consequence of breaking the freak’n machine is to leave our credit card details and get charged for 5,000 dollars per member. (I suppose this is a not-so-funny joke by the lecturer)
In history, there was this one talented student who succeeded in sneaking through the professionals’ eyes, and broke the machine for a repairing fee of 90,000 dollars. However, since it is the lecturer and tutors’ responsibility to recheck the correctness of the students’ CNC codes, I guess the uni paid the bill. (haha)
Oh, the project will have to be worked in groups of 8 members, never worked in such a big group before, and I think gathering 8 people together would be the first tough problem of the task.
So who’s in?
